STATE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE
As described in Section A "Critieria for Course/Program Approval at Local and Chancellor's Office Levels" and in the
Program and Course Approval Handbook, the following programs and courses must be forwarded and approved
by the Chancellor's Office prior to publishing them in the catalog and implementing them. Please refer to the California
Community College Chancellor's Office web site and download the appropriate forms and
instructions. You may seek help with these from the Curriculum Co-Chairs, and if Vocation, from the Workforce
Education Coordinator.
- Application for Approval - New Occupational Programs
- Application for Approval - New Transfer Program
- Request to Add New Option or Certificate Within Existing Program to Inventory - (For De Anza this
includes new degrees and certificates)
- Substantial Changes to Approved Program (or Reactive of Inactive Program)
- Request to Add Projected (New) Program to Inventory
- Application for Approval - New or Revised Apprenticeship Program
- Application Form for Approval of Stand-Alone Courses
TITLE V
It is the responsibility of the college and its Curriculum Committee to assure that the standards summarized in Division
of Title V of the California Code of Regulations, i.e., the regulations that govern curriculum procedure in the California Community Colleges,
are fulfilled for all new and existing courses. It is also their obligation to assure that all course that are offered for transfer meet the
particular standards of the institutions for which they are to be counted as transfer, especially those put forward for
inclusion in system wide agreements, such as IGETC (intersegmented General Education Transfer Core.)
CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES STATE ACADEMIC SENATE
The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges fosters the effective participation by community
college faculty in all statewide and local academic and professional matters; develops, promotes, and acts
upon policies responding to statewide concerns; and serves as the official voice of the faculty of California
Community Colleges in academic and professional matters. The Academic Senate strengthens and supports
the local senates of all California community colleges.
DE ANZA COLLEGE ACADEMIC SENATE
The purpose and function of the Academic Senate shall be to give the De Anza
College faculty a formal and effective procedure for participating in the formation of
college and district policies on academic and professional matters. (Reference: Title 5,
Subchapter 2, Section 53201 and AB 1725.)
With regard to academic and professional matters, the Foothill-De Anza Board of
Trustees either jointly develop and agree or rely primarily upon the recommendations of
the Academic Senate. Therefore, it shall be the responsibility of the Academic Senate to be primarily concerned
with and to make recommendations to the appropriate college and district administrators
and management teams, the Board of Trustees, and State educational agencies on such
local and statewide community college educational issues as curriculum, degree and
certificate requirements, grading policies, educational program development, standards
regarding student preparation and success, governance structures of the college,
accreditation, faculty professional development activities, policies for program review,
processes for institutional planning and budget development, and other academic and
professional matters as mutually agreed upon between the Board and the Academic Senate.
